I am sad to say Lynn (Cary) Nauenburg passed away in Sumter, S C on July 20, 2015 from Pancreatic cancer and MS.  His bio is on the  "Classmates Page of this site.  As far as I know he only attended our 20th class reunion.  I danced with him there and we reminiced about dancing together at Billy Clower Dance Studio in 6th, 7th and maybe into 8th grades.   It was really a big deal to go to Billy Clowers - every other Friday night.
I posted condolances on his Facebook page

It's getting close to the 50th, Sept....If you haven't already, send in your check and registration to Janet Farr Campbell. Everything is being done online this time but if you don't have one of those new fangled COMPUTERS....she'll mail you the info....But how are you reading this if you don't go online??? We've lost so many classmates and sadly, family members too; young and old. We weren't all friends in HS and might not have known each other BUT here we are, almost 70 freaking years old.....so be there or be square...sand share your life's journey. Janice Willoughby, Gail Cowen and Bobie Manzer certainly will be there in spirit....

REUNION
WEEKEND ON JULY 25, 2012
...

A bunch of us lady "COUGARS" are ordering a GLITZY
T-Shirt that Janice Willoughby Hedden and I saw at the VHS Bookstore.  It does not have a year on it, so any Ventura High School class can wear it.  The T-Shirt is really cute.  See picture I had added under Memories.  I think it was put under "Monthly Dinners."

It is good quality and comes in sizes up to 4X.

$25.00 from XS to 1X
2X to 4X the price is $30.00.

Please send your size and payment to:
Janice Hedden
263 Estrella Street
Ventura, CA
(805)643-6678

Or Jodeen Frank has offered people to use her PayPal account to pay by credit card at: JAFRANK49@HOTMAIL.COM
Per Jodeen: If I see a payment come in, I'll keep a list and will have their mailing address attached. I'll give them a confirmation message and explain that they won't be ordered till June....and of course if something falls through, money will be refunded!

If you haven't already...............let us know if you would like one too! We need to have an order of 48 t-shirts!

See you all at the Reunion,

WOOO HOOOO............for those interested in the bling-glitzy VHS cougar t-shirt, I have your answers.  The sizes are "women's sizes" but they run a tad small -- so if you usually wear a medium, order a large............the sizes range from extra small to 4X -- however from 2X up the cost is $30 and from 1X down the cost is $25........so start sending in your orders stating your full name and size -- you can either purchase through Jodeen's PayPal account or send me your check to 263 Estrella, Ventura, CA 93003  (805) 643-6678.........I'm assuming everyone will be picking theirs up our ice breaker on Friday, July 27 OR if you want them sent to you, let me know and I'll check our funds to see if we have extra postage money.   Anything else you need to know???

Roxy, the dollar eater, had her annual physical at Carmel Valley Vet Hospital this morning. While I was there, I thought of asking Dr. Holt when he had attended UC Davis Vet School. Turns out that he and Frank Grasse were in the same class! He was pushed for time this morning, though I was able to quickly update him on Frank's writing and his death in 2010. When I take Roxy back next week, he plans to tell me a funny story about their adventures at a feed lot. Should be a one-of-a-kind story for the reunion.

Well VHS friends.....yet another sad bit of news -- Thursday evening (August 18) we lost another classmate - Mark Matye - we lost him to ALS.....I  understand Danny Stark saw him a few days before his passing but I wanted to at least put something on our website for his VHS classmates.... I thought I would include below what he wrote at one point on our website -- his great sense of humor is definitely highlighted.....

First off, I put zero as my # of children... but am in fact the father of Danny Stark's son. SHHHHHH!!!... don't tell Danny, it's a big secret!

Well, it's been a busy time since I saw you all last.... ex- four term United States Senator from the State of Iowa, inventor of The Hubble Telescope, 2007 Irving R. Thalburg Award winner from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, mentor to Bill Gates, etc, etc... you know, the usual stuff.

Ah, let's see, what else... still work half days (dawn to dusk). Still am a principal of Mac Valley Oil Co. Still demonstrate WW 11 era fighter type aircraft in airshows throughout the Western States in the summer. Still can't believe that Bill Bogner has passed away. Still think we had a class for the ages. Still am so grateful to have been in it with all of you. Still know that we beat Buena 14 to 7. Still feel that all of the people that work hard so that we can get together are the greatest, and thank them all so much. Still hope to be there and say hi to one and all.

So sad that we lost a great person -- he will definitely be missed........

Hi all.....I have some very sad heartfelt news to report about a couple of VHS alumni......Bill Green (class of '66) and his wife Janice Munoz - Green were riding their motorcycle Sunday, July 3 when they were involved in an accident.  Here is how the Ventura Star reported it:  A 60-year-old motorcycle passenger was killed Sunday (that would be Janice) when the bike she was riding crashed on Highway 101 in Camarillo.  Janice Green Munoz of Camarillo was riding on a motorcycle driven by her husband Bill shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday when it crashed on Highway 101 southbound north of Carmen Drive.  Bill Green was approaching Carmen Drive in the fast lane at about 55 mph when traffic began slowing and he braked hard in an attempt to avoid rear-ending vehicles ahead of him, CHP officials said in the statement.  After braking, he lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned into the center divider.  Both riders were thrown from the bike.  Janice was taken to St. John's Hospital in Oxnard, where she died.  Bill Green was admitted to the intensive care unit at Ventura County Medical Center following the crash for treatment of internal bleeding, broken ribs, a fractured scapula and a fractured clavicle. Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected factors in the crash - both riders had used safety equipment.
This really hits us all hard as once a month many of us from VHS get together for a dinner somewhere in Ventura - Janice and Bill always join us - we just had dinner together a week ago -- about 15 to 25 of us show up each month and we laugh, talk about "back when" and share what's happening in our lives today -- Bill and Janice had some great laid out plans for their future....this is very sad.  We will miss her laughter and smiles and we will all be there, of course, for Bill.  Please send your prayers to him and both families.

Hi class of '67......July 28, 2012......that's the date of our 45th reunion....mark your calendars.  God willing that I'm still on this earth, I would like to see some old faces...... errrrr........I mean ahhhhh......'67 classmates  (hey we're not old -- YET) --- LOL.
I say God willing because many of you may have heard that in April 2010 I had a serious life changing happening in my life that not only caused a car accident but I went into cardiac arrest and had to be revived with the paddles not once, not twice but four times.....but  I'm still here one year later so that means someone upstairs must have bigger plans for me (hey gotta make it to the 45th).  So with that being said, I just want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you who were with me during my fight to live in the hospital as well as helping to take care of me at home AND all the cards and well wishes I received from many of you.  Almost all of the wonderful people during this ordeal were classmates -- you showed me soooo much love and were so there for me words could never express my gratitude.......now I don't want to start naming names cause I don't want to forget someone -- but to those that were there for me and with me..... THANK YOU from the bottom of this heart of mine.
I look forward to connecting with many of you next year.....meantime, please take care of yourself and LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!

I visited the monthly meeting once already in 2011.  The year book being passed around allowed me to reaquaint myself with those present.  It is amazing that my memory of High School is so fresh, but its hard to remember last month.  I enjoyed everyone very much.  I had a great time.  All of you looked great.  I always wondered what happened to different people.  I spoke to Frank Grassi about 60 days before his death last year.  You never know when your time is up, do you?   We all should start giving serious thoughts about the hereafter.  I will attend dinners again, and some of you are getting my Bible lessons.  My email is packnovapack@aol.com   909-553-9606.  God bless you all.

Hi everybody, I can't believe  I'm able to connect with my classmates from so long ago. Hope everyone is well. I was saddened to hear of the passing of my high school boyfriend's sister, Myra Gutierrez. She, Manuel and Cesar (also dsceased) used to ride to school every morning. We skipped once, bought some bread and balogna, and drove to the mountains, and played in the snow. That was a fun day. I've been in Michigan since '66.I came back to Ventura in '72, but Cesar was gone, alot of my friends were married, and it just wasn't the same. Anyway, I'm a nurse and a harness horse trainer and driver. I have 5 kids and 14 grandchildren. I would love to see my dear friend, Jodeen, I just re-connected with and anyone else who remembers me next year at the re-union.  Love, Debbie

Last week my brother, John, a member of the Class of 1965, learned that Barry Coyle died last Monday. Barry was ASB President when we were sophomores, and his sister, Karen ("KC"), was in our class.
The information that John forwarded to me said that Barry had a very progressive bout with cancer and that he died at home in Ojai, with his wife, Gail Wyborny,  and son Brian with him.
There were to be no services.

We had a good time at Mike's Restaurant and congratulated him on the 20th anniversary of his being a proud American Citizen! We OLD FOLKS even endured a "youngster" at an adjoining table congratulating US fellow high schoolers for getting out and together for a good time! He was freaking from the VHS class of 1976 .....and he looked like he could have been in OUR class...I might add! He had no clue why we were laughing hysterically! We were having such a good time telling stories we almost missed our shuttle bus back to THE OLD FOLKS HOME! Diane Menashe passed along a BIG HELLO via email to everyone! Tootie (Nathelle Kirkman) came from Santa Monica while visiting her new grandbaby. We'll announce the next dinner, hopefully before Christmas....I don't want to wait till after the first of the year!

Myra Perez Gutierrez passed away a few days ago from complications of diabetes. She and her brother, Cesar and their parents escaped Cuba after the revolution in the late 50's and caused quite a stir when she married Manny Gutierrez at the tender age of 16! He was devoted to caring for her after she lost her eyesight some years ago. There is more info on the Ventura County Star Newspaper website and you can always go online to read local news.

EVERYONE...Also sign up on Facebook! 2 long lost classmates have been found via that great site! DIANE MENASHE & KATHY BURNAKUS VANZANDT! Like all of us, the roads they traveled in this life have been interesting and challenging! Diane MIGHT even fly out from Virginia for the Brown Bag Picnic and Birthday Party!!! My daughter has added some info on the Facebook site linking our Birthday Party and Class of 1967. If you just go there, sign up, give a limited amount of personal information if you want, then find the VHS 1967 group, it will be another way to link us together.

I will be in Ventura for the 60th birthday bash.  Julie Valencia Schoen's father passed away last fall and we're going to Oak View to pack his personal effects.  While there, both of us will be able to attend the party.  I turned 60 last Dec while Julie turns 60 on July 4.  We're both looking forward to seeing all of you.

HEY '67 CLASS.......darn - although I do have a long ago planned wedding to attend on July 25 as well (NO, not my own - HA) I will work it out the best I can to be at the VHS picnic during the day and the 60th birthday party afterwards.
Hope many of you can make these events....although those of us who made it at the picnic last year had fun, it would be nice to see more of us there!
Now for my big 6-0, I'm looking at a little 3 night 4 day cruise in September to help celebrate.  I found a few for around $250 - if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll give you more details as they progress.  Until then... see you July 25!!

Everybody! Come to the All Alumni 60th Birthday Party. It is going to be a small get-together at the Bell Arts Studio - formerly known as Bell Matress Factory. A wonderful venue that is now home to our famous local artist Moses Mora! (Along with many others) He will be showing you around if you want to see what's going on around the building. We have reserved the Community Room and will be providing light snacks a few hours after the Annual Brown Bag Picnic at VHS. This is just a way to get together inbetween the 5 year traditional reunion! That's what older folks do, you know!
5 years is a long time.....

Janet Campbell has made the move to Las Vegas to pursue her lifelong dream of being a card counter playing "21" at one of the big casinos....We wish her well!

More detail will be posted soon.  I do know that Debbie Glen and her husband are planning on being here for the party!

Hope everything is going well for all of you.

Hi all,
Moses and I had talked about the 60th Birthday Party for the Class of '67 months ago and since he had not heard from me and he missed the last "get-together" he sent the following note.  So read it and then the balance of my message.

Sent: Tue, 3 Feb 2009 9:46 pm
Subject: 60th BDay Event
All,
I think that time is upon us to set a meeting if we really  want to have an event that will commemorate the year most of the class of '67 will turn 60. I have some ideas, but it will depend on the amount of energy we put into it. Could be something minimal and simple (like taking over a club for an evening) or something that will require more energy and resources, like planning an event at a venue like the Bell Arts Factory (a place that I already have an in with.) I am sorry that I missed the dinner at Mike's that was held about a month ago or so - maybe a lot of this could have been hashed out there and then. This Friday, February 6th from 6 til 9PM, there will be an art reception at the Bell Arts, Janet maybe you can invite some of the others to attend and see the room. I can give you a tour of the place and we can consider possibilities. On the other hand we can do this almost anytime we can get a group of organizers together. There are many possibilities, let me know what you think.
Best,
Moses Mora
mosesmora@gmail.com
(805) 258-1160

Moses and I talked this morning and the current plan is:

VHS Pals Get-together
Feb 23, 2009
Bell Arts Factory - not Mike's Restaurant
432 N Ventura Ave - Parking on Prospect
6:00pm tour of the facility where we will most likely have the Birthday Party
6:30pm we will go to Yolanda's Restaurant at Main and Ventura Ave for dinner, visiting and party planning.

Please RSVP... and if you cannot attend, but have any comments or suggestions or anything you can donate (food/beverages, decorations, music coordination of 60 CD's, money, etc) regarding the party, please tell us so we can put it in mix.   If we charge a ticket pirce, we have to pay a facility fee.  If everything is taken care of with donations or a free will offering, we save that fee.  This is my understanding and Moses will let us know otherwise.

Keep in mind our party date is July 25, 2009, the day of the VHS All Alumni Picnic, at the school (always the last Sat of July), so if you would like to help with that event, the Alumni Association is really hoping some "younger" classmates will step up to help with the event.  Many who have done it for years are just not able any more.  Isn't it nice to think we are the younger ones.  Please give it some thought and let me know if you are interested.

I send to some of you who I know are not in the area, but just keeping you in the loop and so you can Mark the Date of July 25, 2009 for a possible vistit to Ventura.  Guess I'll post this on the website too, for those I don't have emails for and just FYI.
Probably a few of you that don't belong with VHS - so just let me know and I'll try not to include you again.

Hi Everyone,  I am soooo glad the reunion books are being sent.  Thanks Janet.  Well,  A 6th Grandchild was added to my family on July 30th.  My daughter,  Allison, gave birth to a baby boy.  Her first child.  Little Benjamin Allen weighed in at 7lbs, 9ozs and 21&1/2 inches long.  Of course he is adorable!  And I will become a Great Grandma in January!!  This one will be a little girl.  I'm still in shock about being a Great Grandma, but I know I'll get over it.  In September, Tami Vreeland, Debbie Daniels and I spent a wonderful week in Maui.  My 1st trip to the islands.  We had soooo much fun.  The trip went perfectly and we are still best friends, HAHAHA!  Can't wait to plan another one.  Sure wish I lived closer to Ventura.  Hope all is well with everyone from Ventura and would like to hear from my old friends.  Take care..........Kris

Hey Classmates - guess what?     Yep, I have the 40th Reunion Photo Books.

You are invited to a VHS Pals Open House this Saturday, Nov. 1st from 3-8pm.at 2185 S Hill Road, Ventura, 93003.

Please RSVP with your contact updates.  That means if your address, phone, email has changed since we sent reunion info out early 2007, send it to me.  You can update your own info on the website by clicking on "edit info" at your name on "Classmates" page at any time, but I don't automatically get notified of update - just new listings, so I need you to email me too and just say you made changes, so I can update the database.

If  you are lucky enough to attend this fun work and chat (not gossip) day, you can pick up your book (and maybe deliver a book to a classmate who lives close to your house).  We will prepare books for mailing (many have/will be mailed prior to Sat) do some work on the reunion database and website, get you signed-in if you are not yet on our web site, have info about the VHS Foundation, collect ideas for our 60th birthday party next year and of course have refreshements.

IMPORTANT ISSUE
My emails lately have kicked back several email address' that are incorrect from the database, website or the form filled out at the reunion, so I need some help in contacting these classmates.  I guess it's possible I have entered them wrong in my "person contacts list" and I will be checking on that, but  for classmates you communicate with please send info to me or ask them to email me or through the Contact Us" page on our site. As with the lost list, you might think if you have the info, everyone else must too, but it takes one of you to get around to letting me know.  We are in this together - right.

Kicked back from last mass email - Do you know these classmates?

mgunnels@msn.com - Glen Gunnels
jwilkinson@tvcclinic.com - Janice Wilkinson
lachamaa@comcast.com - Larry Butler
jumc78@charter.net - ?
culberjf@hotmail.com - John Culbertson

I have sent all the time I can for now on this, so I will look up the ? and additional incorrect emails I may find, asap.

If you didn't attend the reunion or order a Photo Book, and want one, there will be a few available at $12.00 each.

It will be all Saint Day, so still in the Halloween spirit and at midnight this Saturday - don't forget to set the clocks BACK an hour.

This past week I was visiting relatives in Missouri, so I contacted Marvin & Kitty Creech and Terri Bovee Schuttenberg and met them in Branson. We spent a wonderful afternoon and evening reminiscing, and had dinner together at the new Branson Landing area. I will try to post a photo of us together here in the 'memories' section this weekend. Terri had our Will Rogers elementary school photos which contained a number of our VHS class of '67 classmates. Marvin added more recollections, including our days at Cabrillo as well as VHS. Even though we didn't really socialize together back then, it was nearly as if we had grown up in the same family, and was a heart warming experience.

By coincidence of timing, Terri had just learned about Ken Nemson's tragic death from this Web site, and broke the news to Marvin and me. That was Monday night, and I was still able to be back in Ventura to attend the memorial service at the grave site yesterday. Mr Nemson was very appreciative to see several members of our class in attendance. The ceremony emphasized Ken's strong Christian faith and devotion to service, which was especially comforting to fellow believers who know he is now in a better place, even though we will miss him.

May God bless all of you, and hold you in the palm of his hand until we meet again.

My daughter, Shaina, and I just got back from the Memorial Service in Elk Grove, CA. There were at least 100 people there and so many people got up and said wonderful things about him, and there was not a dry eye in the bunch. He will be greatly missed up here. As an adult he touched the lives of many people through his Church involvement. Not a bad legacy to leave, huh?

I did not see the email about Ken until late this afternoon and was so saddened by the news. We, like many of you, had exchanged some emails before the reunion.  I had reminded Ken that his father has been kind enough to escort me to a Father Daughter dinner my senior year as he knew I didn't have a father to bring. He was so kind and Ken was happy to learn of that kindness towards me. It seems so much more tragic to know that the accident happened while Ken was on his way to celebrate Mr. Nemson's birthday. If anyone has his parent's address I would sure appreciate if you could include it in these messages as I would like to send them a note. Thanks in advance.

Ken sent this after I emailed him after last summer's reunion.

Jean, I will be sure to let my Dad know you said "hi."

Just a little "you'd never believe", but I was BORN in Carmel!  My dad had just completed his masters in physical edu (what else) at Berkeley and taught for one year at Carmel HS (I think) b4 moving to Filmore where he coached for maybe 3 or 4 years, and then VHS!  Small world aye?  He's been retired now for 23 years!  Hard to believe ... even he can't believe it.

I debated the reunion deal and gave serious thought about going ... but I would have been solo so I chickened out.  I'm chok'en on the feathers!

Have corresponded w/ a number of HS buds though.  Where has the time gone!  More references to those who have "retired" than I expected.  At 58 (I guess that is no secret to any of us) I can't get my mind around "retirement."  It is hard to even imagine myself in that circumstance.  But, who knows.

I like your picture of Roxy.  She looks like she's a lot of fun.  Lots of companionship I would guess.  I'm a schnauzer guy myself.

Would enjoy staying in touch.

In each of our lives we come into contact with individuals, often briefly, who leave a lasting impression. Ken was one of those persons to me. I think I only spoke to him once or twice while in school. I certainly do not remember what we spoke about. But I do remember his earnest and sincere interest in what I had to say. This impressed me because so many people whole play a prominent role in the hirearcy of school social classes, as he did, sometimes come across with an air of superiorty. His humility and kindness I am sure carried on into his adult life and will be missed by family and friends. I wish I had known him better.

I read Ken's past message to us....asking us to drop his dad a line...he's in the phone book but the address is Ed Nemson, 3960 Paloma Dr. Ventura 93003. Ken said his dad looks so much like he did when he was our principal and that he'd be happy to hear from old students. What a sad way to make contact. There will probably be an obituary in the Ventura paper and you can access it online.

HI Everyone,
It is funny how one's life can change. It looks like I will be taking "early retirement" as of this coming year, and if all works out, will be moving back to good old Ventura, from Delaware! I can't wait to start joining you for those regular get-togethers. The big move there probably wont be happening for about a year, but I will most likely be moving to Los Angeles, maybe as early as the fall, with my sister while getting the housing situated.  I will probably be around a lot this summer so maybe I can even meet up sometimes. I'll let you know :)

As I read over some of the messages it is heartwarming how you have fond memories of Ventura High but also how you care about one another and realize how family and friendship are so much more important that what we might acquire or achieve.   One of the things I remember about Ventura is that up til that time it was the longest I had lived in one place; five years.
Does anyone know what happend to Jack Sage?  Did anyone know Cheryl Revard who graduated in 1970 or 1971?

Merry Christmas to all of you!   Hopefuly everyone will be with their loved ones in this season of peace and joy!
We will have a quiet Christmas.  My son broke his femur in late July and he had to be airlifted to San Francisco,  He is finally able to walk without crutches or a cane.  We are so grateful that he is able to walk again. We feel so blessed!  Families are wonderful!
To you my family of classmates, I hope you have a wonderful time with your families in this season of love!

Love and peace to all of you!

Happy Holidays to ALL!

I just wanted to wish you all a great Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas.
Ours will be great as our son, who has been in combat in Iraq since October of 2006, will be home for Christmas. Our daughter and her new husband will also join us. Great to have the kids home for such a joyous time. We have so much to be grateful for.

Hi everyone, Two new albums have been added to the "Memories" link. One is "Classmates Show Us Your Stuff", so you can add new family members (Joan), places you have been or just any fun photo of you with your family or friends. Share with your classmates what you have been up too lately. The other album is "Memories of Ventura". I have added photos of E.P Foster Elementary, Avenue and DeAnza so far. There are other schools and just fun places we remember. For those of you that no longer live in Ventura, just let me know if there is a place you would like me to take a picture and I will put it on the site. OK, start taking some photos and adding them to the site. Looking forward to seeing some new ones. Janice

I was planning to come to the reunion, until my daughter announced she and her husband were expecting and the due date was August 11, the day of the reunion. And yes, as it turned out, Sidney Kira was born on August 11..how often does that happen. She's our first grandchild so we're very excited. I enjoyed the posted Reunion pictures. Sorry, I couldn't be there. Next I will be.

It is so much fun looking at the pictures. I don't think we've changed that much! Big Smile........... :0} Everyone looks great! I almost seen in person...I made it at the last minute and was in Ventura, 'till the nite of the ice breaker. I had to leave town to go to Utah suddenly, my Aunt fell and broke a hip. She is doing very well for 91 years old... Everyone looks so good, and happy! Hello to everyone and thanks for posting some pictures so the rest of us can "dig" up the memories :o}. I'll try for the brown bag next year... I'm coming to Ventura this winter sometime. Maybe I'll see you then. Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to arrange things and make it work, it looked great. Wish I could have been there. Dixie

For those who missed the 40th reunion, here's an alternative: San Francisco, CA July 1. 2007 - San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom has issued a proclamation declaring Sunday, September 2, 2007, Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Day in San Francisco. On that day, the 40th Anniversary Summer of Love Free Concert will take place in Golden Gate Park’s Speedway Meadows between 10 AM and 6 PM. Mayor Newsom acknowledged the 60s movement in his proclamation which begins: "Whereas, The Summer of Love in San Francisco is internationally recognized as the birthplace of the 60's revolution that ignited a spiritual awaking that swept the world..." The full proclamation including concert information can be found at www.2b1records.com/summeroflove40th.

No...the little stinker isn't due until the middle of Sept....his name will be Hudson. I had a baby shower for my daughter-in-law the weekend of the reunion with 45 women at my house, hence the reason I couldn't attend the reunion. But I'm coming to the next one, God willing!!!!! I'm anxiously waiting for some of you that went to post pictures!!! Chris....just becuz' we are "old" doesn't mean we can't act silly and go alittle over board! Isn't that what reunions are for???? Good thing name tags were given out....there were a lot of people I didn't recognize in Janice Green's "Ice Breaker" photos! Course it's been 40 years since seeing most of you! Hey Joan, Soooo you want the scoop! Well, It was a great reunion. The cocktail party was great. A lot of people showed up for both. I'd say, well over 100. We danced all night, laughed about old times and got together with really good friends. If you're wondering if we acted like school kids, and went overboard, I'd say no. It was a great 2 nights and everyone has great memories to take home. Sorry you missed it. I hope you make the next one. Kris

Kudos to both Janet and Jodeen for organizing this year's reunion. Everyone looked great! I had a wonderful time meeting and getting reacquainted with everyone. It was after 11:30pm when I left the Icebreaker. I was persuaded to come to the Dinner and Dance the next evening. I showered, got dressed and was going out the door when my 93 year old mother started her dementia-related episode. It took me almost 5 hours to calm her and get her settled. By that time, I was both mentally and emotionally exhausted. I apologize to everyone for not being there. I truly wanted to be there to meet and greet others whom I missed at the Icebreaker. Prosperity, good health and good fortune to you all. See you at the 45th.

In remembrance of our Senior Class President and others: Captain A gentle breeze across our bow, an eddy at the stern; You washed across the foredeck at every pitch and turn. You weren't a storm we called by name and yet we knew you well; You gave the hands aboard our ship a novel course to sail. Now you wash across the globe to ports and seas unknown; A steady wind for sailors so far away from home. I'll see you in the islands of sand so gold and fair; When ripples off the water touch the blossoms in my hair.

It has been sooooooo much fun reminiscing about the "good ole days" prior to our August 10-11-12 event....... remembering the granny dresses (WOW, Janice Green, I almost forgot about those), the Rec Center dances, cruising Main Street (which some of us still do on occasion-HA), etc. Those of us who have stayed around Ventura forget how much things have changed for those who have been living miles away (like the gates on Poli by VHS).......so good to know we can put 1,000 pics on this website and relive it over and over. Now, as of this writing, I just found out (sniff sniff) that I may not be able to make the reunion afterall......my mother's last living sister unexpectantly died yesterday after going to the hospital a few days ago --- don't know when the funeral will be at this moment but because the weekend is coming up, they may hold it then (to make it easier for family/friends to come to Sacramento over the weekend) -- I need to drive my mom and be there with her and the family..... although it's a sad time for my family, I would even be more sad if I can't make the reunion....

Get Janice and Janice's pictures! They are great. If you have been away for awhile you may need captions because building's have been added in the middle of places where we used to walk. She should mention that the scene of Poli with NO cars is what it is like during school now! Due to a concerned group of parents and community leaders about 10 years ago (thank you thank you) we got gates installed at either end of the street and through traffic had to divert to Seaward or Catalina. We had a drive-by shooting and numerous gang fights from people who had such easy access with cars on Poli. We were the talk of the state of California at PTA conventions that how silly to have a busy street disect the campus...Lots of kids were intentionally nearly struck down. I volunteered in the attendence office (how else to keep tabs of your kid!) and there was a RED PHONE kept in a closet which hillside residents could call and we would RUN out and unlock the gates. Lots of controversy over those gates which has subsided with time. Some of the biggest complainers were parents of our classmates who could have had grandchildren at VHS but didn't want to be inconvenienced! Oh, times have changed! Didn't our parents and grandparents say that!

I sure enjoy checking this website every day to see the new entries! I'm getting so excited about seeing everyone. I am having trouble deciding how I should write my name. My maiden name first or my married name? I think I've done it differently each time. Oh well, at least I think I know who I am. I loved the pics of DeAnza that Janice Green Smith sent me. Strolling down memory lane is sweet. Speaking of....This past weekend my husband and I attended the inaugural "Summer of Love Festival" in Monterey with sounds of 1967. It was so much fun listening to the music of that summer, dancing on the grass, and seeing all the grayhaired set in their costumes of dye- tie, flowers in thier hair, beads and beards. At least I THINK they were costumes!! Maybe some of us never got past those good times. Anyway it felt like a preview of our reunion weekend and I can't wait.

On a more serious note.......WOW....... 41 departed classmates (that we know of)......let's all take a minute to say a silent prayer for those we have lost......afterall, you never know...... I was close to being on that list....12 years ago this January, I got a virus that instead of hitting my stomach and giving me the stomach flu, it hit my heart and resulted in cardiomyopathy with congestive heart failure....WHEW........ but I pulled out of it (although I'm still on meds) and am very thankful for every day of my life (even though I moan and groan about things). Funny how being close to death can make you appreciate even the simplest of things (even 12 years later)......so let's be grateful for all we have and the friends and classmates we will soon be seeing on August 10, 11 and 12. Till then...... take care.

I've been trying to contact Ann Fillmore Florence (Salt Lake City) with no luck, even with the phone number Janet provided. Has anyone seen or heard from her lately? (Her parents have a beach house on Camden Lane in Pierpont.) Thanks.

Joan - Robin Kirsch is still in Ventura, still surfing. My husband also still surfs and sees him quite often. He is going to the reunion or at least he says he is. Good to hear from you through this site.

This site is great. I spoke with John Mitchell yesterday for the first time since 1968. I have been looking for him since I got out of the army in 1970. Thank you Ric R. Dutch

I have been looking for John Mitchell for 35 years and to my surprise, he signed-in here. Can anyone give me info on how to contact him. I sent a message through this site but do not know how often he will check. See you in August, Darryl

I love this site! Tammy Vreeland called me and told me to fill in this memo so people could reach me if they wanted to. When she called I felt like my sister had just called and no time had passed from the last time I spoke to her. How connected are we all? It seems to me that the people who you grow up with are forever a beautiful part of your life in great and mysterious ways. I cannot wait to see everyone. Debbie

I agree with Jodeen! This web site is going to bring a lot of us together, whether we were friends in high school or not. As we mature, we realize what the really important things in life are and one of them, is friendship. Linda Car Hensen (Jerry) contacted me, as we were in first grade together. We have continued to e-mail each other. I contacted Lynn Naurenburg and Doris Copus, as they were also in grade school with us. We learn so many things about our classmates and what they have been doing all these years. Debbie Glen Jensen is now retired and invited me to come to their beach house. This is just a few that I have been in touch with since I signed up on the web site. It is great! Hoping that Gail Hartman signs up too. I would love to hear from her. Working on the committee, keeps a lot of us in contact through the years. The committee try's to have a dinner, etc., every few months. Hope to see you all at the reunion and if you cannot make it, keep in touch.

Funny thing! Jodene Frank had me drive by an address here in Keizer, Oregon to see if Gail Hartman (now Hanley) lived there. I went by after work and no one was home. As I was leaving, a 5th wheel drove up and there she was. They were just returning frome six months in Arizona. Wow! What great timing! She lives 1-1/2 miles from me. I did not know her in school but hope to get to know her and her husband, Paul, in the future. Contact me or Jodene if you want to get in touch with her. She will be travelling again in a week and a half, so hurry.

There are some incredible things going on! People are discovering classmates living in their towns or nearby. They didn't necessarily know each other but are corresponding and even getting together! When you post on the message board mention your town! This website is going to be our connection in the years to come and is well worth the money spent....Keep posting! Even if we didn't know each other in high school now we have the commonality of jobs, children, grandchildren, illness, and approaching 60 fast........

Hi: Looking through the names, I can't remember many. Probably because I was always studying and forgot to have any fun back then. I do remember too many fights; don't do that anymore. Going on my 34th year of veterinary medicine. Still working five days a week and on call 24/7; getting tired but no retirement in site. Working on a Ford Pantera 1972 basket case after work. Married for 29 years, never thought I would be this lucky; no kids that I know of. Best Wishes to you all to stay vertical. frank

Hi Kids! Looks like I'm one of the few that didn't wander very far from home...we live in Oxnard. I have 2 kids, 3 grandkids and 2 GREAT-grandkids on the way (yeah, yeah, I know...). Just closed our antique store last year and am truly enjoying retirement. Took an early retirement from Fed civil service 7 yrs ago, but having your own business is a lot more work than working for Uncle Sam!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 40th.

Hello, Everybody! I went to UCLA after graduation but couldn't take the hippies. So I over-corrected and transferred to BYU. I loved it! Been living in Salt Lake area ever since, nursing alittle but mostly being a mom to 10 children. Expecting grand baby #15. Three youngest teens are still at home.

I only had the pleasure of being at Ventura High School with our class for my last two years of high school. I have wonderful memories that I will never forget. I am working on a second career here in the Pacific Northwest. Best wishes to all of you. I may be in trial during the reunion, so I may not be able to make it. Best wishes to all of you especially Pam Macy, Nancy Carroll, and Janie Oliver. I would love to be able to get a hold of Janie Oliver Brees. I have lost contact unfortunately. Thank you for the organizers of the reunion. Your work is immensely appreciated. Mary McCarthy McKinleyville, CA

Hello Everyone, I hope to make it to the reunion this year. I keep trying but to no avail. I have two wonderful daughters and three grandkids I adore. I am a stay at home wife and "Mema". My family moved to Arkansas one semester shy of graduation with everyone. Moved to a small town in NW Arkansas. It's beautiful here and we have a view to die for, but Ventura will always be home to me. It was sad for me to see the Departed list and think of these souls gone from us. Can anyone give me more info on Carla Smith? Where she lived or when she passed? I would love to see everyone again after 40 years and visit with all of you. I am planning on being there...I wish you all lots of health, love and laughter. Hope to see you soon.
